$299 was just the court filing fee. The legal costs were quoted separately above – estimated $800 – $2000.

$299 for chapter 7? My attorney was $1300 I believe. This was 7 years ago, much higher now I am sure.

The emotional cost is the big one here. Sadly, I’ve had 3 family members (cousins) have to declare bankruptcy in the past year. It was hard on them. But they got through, and seem to have stronger personal and spiritual lives for it.
